LONDON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th October, 2018) A UK military cargo plane on Friday delivered more than 17 tonnes of relief aid to Indonesia, which is still reeling from a deadly quake and tsunami disaster, the UK Defense Ministry said.
The Royal Air Force Atlas aircraft landed in the Balikpapan seaport on the Indonesian side of the Borneo island, which serves as an international relief center.
"On board were 1,280 much-needed shelter kits and 288 hygiene kits ... The aircraft was also carrying 3 tonnes of Indonesian supplies, in addition to the 17.5 tonnes of UK aid," the statement read.
The ministry said this was part of the $3.9 million it had pledged to the relief effort after a series of strong shocks and a huge tidal wave flattered villages on the island of Sulawesi, killing more than 1,500 people and leaving tens of thousands homeless.
