US Trade Talks With Canada Stalled Over Dairy Issue - White House Economic Director

Failure to reach a deal on dairy is the one major factor blocking a US trade agreement with Canada to match its recent one with Mexico, White House National Economic Council (NEC) Director and presidential adviser Larry Kudlow said in an interview on Friday.

(Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th September, 2018) Failure to reach a deal on dairy is the one major factor blocking a US trade agreement with Canada to match its recent one with Mexico, White House National Economic Council (NEC) Director and presidential adviser Larry Kudlow said in an interview on Friday.

"The word that continues to block the deal is m-i-l-k," Kudlow told Fox business news.

Kudlow said if Canadian negotiators drop the barriers related to dairy and give American farmers a break the deal can be fixed.

The White House's top economic adviser also said he understands the negotiators on both sides were still endeavoring to reach an agreement despite the failure to achieve one by the August 31 deadline imposed by the Trump administration.

On September 1, Trump said in a Twitter message that there was no political necessity to keep Canada in the new North American Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and later he said during a speech in North Carolina that Canada had taken advantage of the United States for many years.
