Number of People Infected With Cholera in Algeria Rises to 56 - Health Ministry

Confirmed cholera cases in Algeria increased from around 40 to 56, the country's Health Ministry said Monday in a statement obtained by Sputnik.

ALGERIA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th August, 2018) Confirmed cholera cases in Algeria increased from around 40 to 56, the country's Health Ministry said Monday in a statement obtained by Sputnik.

Previous reports indicated that at least two people had died in cholera outbreak, while 41 others were infected with the virus in the province of Blida, located 50 miles to the south from the capital of Algeria. A total of 88 people were sent to hospitals in four provinces on suspicion of being infected with the virus.

"There are 56 confirmed cases of cholera infection among 161 people, who were sent to hospitals between August 7 and August 26," the statement read.

Local En-Nahar broadcaster reported, citing the country's education minister, that the cholera outbreak would not have any impact on the start of the school year.
