Eight Airliners Grounded In Chile, Peru After Fake Bomb Threats - Reports

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th August, 2018) Eight passenger planes made emergency landings Thursday in Chile and Peru over fake bomb threats issued to Chilean aviation authorities, local media reported.

The affected flights were operated by Chilean air carriers LATAM and Sky, according to Chile's military police cited by Radio Biobio. The planes were in the air when the threats were issued.

The first calls to the Chilean General Directorate of Civil Aviation grounded flights from Peruvian capital of Lima to Chiles Santiago, from Santiago to Rosario in Argentina, and from Santiago to Calama in northern Chile.

More calls came in later, warning of bombs planted abroad two domestic flights en route from Santiago to Antofagasta, one flying to Lima, one to Buenos Aires and another one returning from Argentinas Mendoza.

Police are reportedly conducting investigations into who made the disruptive bomb calls. Several bomb threats have since been confirmed as fake on media, but no official statements have been made.
