My every important verdict follows a campaign from a ‘particular’ group: Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui

Says he has long wanted to present himself for accountability

Rawalpindi (Pakistan Point News – 21st July, 2018) Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui has said that whenever he gives an important verdict, it is followed by a campaign from a particular group.

I am clean that’s why I asked the Supreme Judicial Council to conduct my open trial, he said.

Justice Siddiqui said that he has been offered to become chief justice in September instead of November, but there is no shortcut to success.

He said that I was assured that a reference against me would be closed if I give verdicts of their choice. He added that the free media has also given up today. One becomes a judge by showing justice and bravery not by doing a job.

Addressing Rawalpindi District Bar, the IHC judge said that he has long wanted to present himself for accountability in the Bar.

“I can only be held accountable through my bar. Nobody could prove a single allegation of corruption against me. They say that I am the one facing a corruption reference. If my corruption is proved, I can resign over bar’s demand. I invite all the lawyers to investigate the corruption charges against me and see if there is any truth to them,” he said.

Justice Siddiqui said that the lawyers should alleviate the crimes instead of becoming its facilitator.

He said that Pakistan cannot be compared to Europe or America, it can be compared to India, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka. He said that 50 percent responsibility lies on judiciary in the present situation while the remaining 50 percent lies on other institutions.

The IHC judge said that the law students are still not aware of Justice Munir’s role which is revealed every now and then.
