Technical committee on H1N1 influenza reviews latest situation of disease

The Technical Committee constituted by the Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on H1N1 Seasonal Influenza under the chair of Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir reviewed the latest situation of the disease in its first meeting held here on Thursday.

LAHORE, (Pakistan Point News - 18th Jan, 2018 ) : The Technical Committee constituted by the Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on H1N1 Seasonal Influenza under the chair of Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir reviewed the latest situation of the disease in its first meeting held here on Thursday. The meeting discussed the seasonal influenza especially in Multan and the steps taken for the control of the disease and the treatment of the patients in public sector hospitals.

Besides Secretary P&S Health Ali Jan Khan, Special Secretary Specialized Healthcare Dr. Sajid Mehmood Chohan, DG Health Dr. Akhtar Rasheed Malik, Member Health Planning & Development, Additional Secretary Technical Asim Altaf, Health Specialist Dr. Naeem-ud-Mian and the representative of WHO Dr. Jamshed Ahmad and other concerned officers attended the meeting. DG Health Dr. Akhtar Rasheed Malik informed the meeting that so far 134 confirmed influenza patients reports across the Punjab since last August.

He informed that case response has been carried out to the all patients. He further informed that vaccination of doctors, nurses, deputed for the treatment of influenza patients has also been completed. Representative of WHO Dr. Jamshed was of the view that the real need is to create maximum awareness among the people regarding the disease so that people should adopt preventive measures and use handkerchief or tissue paper while coughing and sneezing to prevent others from the virus.

Moreover, people should wash their hands with soap after handshaking with the persons suffering from seasonal influenza. Dr. Jamshed further said that this message should be communicated house to house through school children and the media. Health Minister Kh, Imran Nazir directed that the disease controlling activities and measures must be accelerated and vigorous awareness campaign against the seasonal influenza should be continued.

He directed that electronic media, news channels and cable channels also be used for spreading awareness among the masses. Kh. Imran Nazir said that the technical committee constituted to monitor the H1N1 seasonal influenza situation in the province will take immediate effective measures for the control of the disease and will ensure medical treatment of the patients in public sector hospitals. He said that the technical committee is fully vigilant and working hard to control the situation.
