LONDON: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 24th, 2026) The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that The Oval will host the 2027 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final, replacing the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground as the venue for the showpiece match.
The five-day final is scheduled to be played from June 9 to June 13, 2027, in London.
The ICC had previously awarded England the hosting rights for the 2027, 2029, and 2031 editions of the World Test Championship Final. Under the agreement, the England and Wales Cricket board (ECB) has the authority to choose the venue for each final.
Although Lord’s was widely expected to stage the 2027 final, the ECB opted for The Oval after reviewing venue requirements and playing conditions.
According to reports, concerns over the quality of the playing surface at Lord’s influenced the decision. Last month, the historic venue received its first ICC demerit point after the pitch used for the Test match between England and New Zealand was officially rated “unsatisfactory” by the match referee.
The Oval will host the World Test Championship Final for the second time. It previously staged the 2023 final, where Australia defeated India to lift the WTC title.
The World Test Championship, introduced by the ICC to add greater context and competitiveness to Test cricket, follows a two-year league format before culminating in a one-off final between the top two teams.
With The Oval now confirmed as the venue, preparations are expected to begin well in advance for one of the biggest events on the international cricket Calendar. The final is likely to draw thousands of spectators to the ground while attracting millions of viewers worldwide.
The change of venue marks a notable departure from expectations surrounding Lord’s, long regarded as the “Home of Cricket,” and underscores the importance the ICC and ECB place on providing the best possible playing conditions for the sport’s premier Test championship decider.
