The US officials have not disclosed details of the ongoing discussions but described them as part of efforts to manage differences between the two sides
WASHINGTON: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 10th, 2026) The United States has confirmed that technical-level talks with Iran are continuing despite a recent escalation in military tensions between the two countries.
The international media reported that the US officials said Washington remains committed to resolving outstanding issues with Tehran through diplomatic engagement. The officials did not disclose details of the ongoing discussions but described them as part of efforts to manage differences between the two sides.
US media also reported that Pakistan and Qatar are playing a mediating role in an attempt to bring Washington and Tehran back to the negotiating table.
The diplomatic efforts come amid renewed hostilities between the two countries. Over the past two days, the US military has carried out strikes against Iranian targets, while Iran responded by launching attacks on US military bases in the region.
Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump struck a pessimistic tone over prospects for renewed diplomacy. Speaking to reporters after meeting the NATO Secretary General in Ankara, Türkiye, Trump said he no longer wanted to reach a deal with Iran and believed the ceasefire between the two sides had effectively collapsed.
"I don't want to make a deal with the Iranians," Trump said, adding that if Iran possessed nuclear weapons, it would use them. He also stated that he did not intend to spend more time pursuing negotiations with Tehran.
Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a strong warning to the United States over the Strait of Hormuz, insisting that foreign powers have "no right or role" in the strategic waterway.
According to Iranian media, the IRGC Navy said any US military action in or around the Strait of Hormuz would seriously disrupt the phased reopening of the vital shipping route and could harm the economic interests of countries that depend on it for international trade and energy supplies.
The latest developments highlight the fragile security situation in the region, even as diplomatic efforts continue through intermediaries to reduce tensions and revive negotiations between the United States and Iran.
