PM orders review of NEPRA’s new solar regulations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directs Power Division to file a review petition to protect existing solar users’ contracts and prevent burden on national grid consumers.

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Feb-11, 2026) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken immediate notice of the new solar regulations issued by NEPRA and directed the Power Division to file a review petition.

According to Express news, the Prime Minister instructed the Power Division to ensure that the review petition safeguards the contracts of existing solar users, guaranteeing full protection of their agreements. He emphasized that the burden on over 4.66 lakh solar users should not fall on the more than 3.76 crore consumers who rely solely on the national grid. The Power Division has been tasked with formulating a comprehensive plan in this regard.

The directive came during a high-level special meeting in Islamabad chaired by Prime Minister Sharif, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Ahad Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Sardar Owais Khan Laghari, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kiani, Privatization Advisor Muhammad Ali, and other senior officials.

The meeting focused on addressing concerns related to NEPRA’s newly issued solar regulations and their impact on existing users.
