A SC two-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi along with Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, takes up Imran Khan’s request to meet his lawyers while in custody
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Feb 10th, 2026) The Supreme Court of Pakistan has appointed Advocate Salman Safdar as a Friend of the Court (Amicus Curiae) and directed him to submit a written report on the living conditions of PTI founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
A two-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi along with Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, conducted the hearing regarding Imran Khan’s request to meet his lawyers while in custody.
The court emphasized the need to independently verify the former prime minister’s condition before proceeding further.
Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan informed the court that, under the August 24, 2023, directive, a written report along with medical records from August 5 to 18, 2023, had already been submitted when Imran Khan was in Attock Jail.
However, the Chief Justice observed that the record did not show the Supreme Court’s satisfaction with that report and expressed full confidence in Salman Safdar to conduct the inspection.
The court instructed Salman Safdar to visit Adiala Jail and provide a detailed report on Imran Khan’s prison conditions, including the facilities available to him.
Chief Justice Afridi also clarified that Safdar should not be made to wait outside the jail and must be granted full access.
During the hearing, Safdar sought clarification on whether the report should focus solely on living conditions.
The chief justice directed him to cover living conditions specifically, taking into account recent medical concerns raised during an eye examination.
The Supreme Court ordered that the written report be submitted by the next day and adjourned the case until the day after tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the court rejected PTI lawyer Latif Khosa’s request for a personal meeting with Imran Khan, confirming that all observations would be submitted through Salman Safdar.
