US military launches attack on Venezuela’s Capital Caracas

President Trump confirms attack on Venezuela, says Maduro and his family have been captured during military operation

CARACAS: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Jan 3rd, 2025) The United States military has reportedly carried out attacks on multiple locations in Venezuela, including the capital city, Caracas. Explosions were reported in Caracas, and low-flying aircraft were observed over several areas of the city.

The US media reported that President Donald Trump ordered the strikes, with at least seven explosions reported in Caracas. A US official confirmed to news agencies that the United States is conducting military operations against Venezuela.

The Venezuelan government confirmed that the attacks targeted Caracas as well as the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira. Officials claimed that the strikes aim to seize Venezuela’s oil and mineral resources. In response, Venezuela condemned the attacks, stating that the US would not succeed in taking the country’s resources and rejecting all forms of American military aggression. Following the attacks, President Nicolás Maduro declared a nationwide state of emergency.

Meanwhile, Russian media reported that the US strikes targeted Venezuela’s defense headquarters, and claimed that President Maduro had evacuated the presidential palace. Unverified reports suggest that US Marines may have begun ground operations on several Venezuelan islands.

In reaction, Colombia’s president stated that missiles are being fired at Caracas and called for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to address the escalating situation.

According to the international media reports, the United States carried out airstrikes on Caracas and multiple Venezuelan states, targeting key military installations and the Ministry of Defense. At least seven powerful explosions were reported in the capital while residents reported US CH-47 Chinook helicopters flying at low altitudes, raising fears of a broader conflict.

The attacks have drawn international condemnation. Colombia and Cuba criticized the US operation and called for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council. Cuban President demanded an immediate global response against what he described as a “criminal assault” on Venezuela.

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that the United States carried out military operations against Venezuela, targeting the country and its leadership.

In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured and removed from the country during the operation. He added that the strikes were conducted in coordination with US law enforcement agencies and promised to provide further details during a press conference later tonight.

The strikes have intensified concerns over escalating tensions in the region and the possibility of further US military actions.
