Mamdani takes oath at New York City Hall
NEW YORK: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Jan 1st, 2026) Zohran Mamdani has been sworn in as the first Muslim mayor of New York City, taking the oath of office on the Holy Quran.
The international media reported that Mamdani took the oath at New York City Hall.
New York Attorney General Letitia James administered the oath, and Mamdani’s wife was also present at the ceremony.
Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Party, won the mayoral election held on November 4, 2025, securing 50.78% of the vote, and became New York’s 112th mayor.
He is the city’s first Muslim mayor. During the election campaign, US President Donald Trump reportedly targeted Mamdani with racial bias.
However, following the Republican candidate’s defeat, Trump not only congratulated Mamdani but also pledged to work with him for the betterment of New York.
