ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Dec 30th, 2025) Former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI), Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed, has filed an appeal against the sentence awarded to him by a military court.
His counsel, Mian Ali Ashfaq, confirmed that the appeal against the punishment handed down by the military court was filed on December 27. However, he refrained from sharing further details regarding the appeal.
It may be recalled that a Field General Court Martial had sentenced Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty of violating the Official Secrets Act, misuse of authority, and breaches of the Pakistan Army Act.
Earlier, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, during a press conference on December 11, had disclosed details of the verdict. He stated that investigations against Faiz Hameed were initiated under the Pakistan Army Act on August 12, 2024, and following a 15-month inquiry, the military court announced the sentence.
Under Section 133-B of the Pakistan Army Act, the convicted officer had 40 days to file an appeal against the decision of the Field General Court Martial.
According to the law, the appeal against a military court verdict will be reviewed by a Court of Appeals constituted by the Army Chief. After reviewing the case, the Army Chief has the authority to accept the appeal, reject it, suspend the sentence, or order modifications to the punishment.
Sources said the appeal maintains that the sentence awarded to Faiz Hameed is unlawful and based on flawed grounds. It further submits that the prosecution failed to prove its case and that the principles of a fair and transparent trial were not adequately observed during the proceedings.
