Special Judge Central Arjumand Shah announced verdict at Adiala Jail in presence of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi
RAWALPINDI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Dec 20th, 2025) A special court on Friday sentenced former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years of imprisonment each in the Toshakhana II case, besides imposing a fine of Rs164 million on them.
Special Judge Central Arjumand Shah announced the verdict at Adiala Jail in the presence of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
However, none of their defence lawyers appeared before the court at the time of the announcement.
The court awarded both accused seven years’ imprisonment each under Section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code (criminal breach of trust by a public servant). With other counts combined, the total sentence for each stands at 17 years. The court also imposed a cumulative fine of Rs164 million on the convicts.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana II case at Adiala Jail on July 13, 2024. They remained in NAB custody for 37 days. After completion of the investigation, NAB filed a reference in the accountability court on August 20, 2024.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision restoring amendments to the NAB law, the Toshakhana II case was transferred to an FIA anti-corruption court on September 9, 2024. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) included Section 5 of the Anti-Corruption Act and Section 409 of the PPC in the case.
The trial formally commenced on September 16, 2024, with Special Judge Central Shah Rukh Arjumand holding the first hearing inside Adiala Jail.
On October 23, 2024, the Islamabad High Court granted bail to Bushra Bibi, and she was released from jail the following day. The IHC later approved bail for Imran Khan on November 20, 2024. Formal charges were framed against the accused on December 12, 2024.
The trial continued for nearly one year at Adiala Jail. A total of 21 witnesses were named in the case, out of whom statements of 18 witnesses were recorded and cross-examined. The prosecution dropped four witnesses.
Key witnesses included former military secretary Brigadier (retd) Muhammad Ahmed, private appraiser Sohaib Abbasi, and Imran Khan’s former principal secretary Inamullah.
According to the FIA, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi received a Bulgari jewellery set as a gift from the Saudi crown prince in 2021. FIA records state that the jewellery set was worth over Rs71.5 million.
The jewellery — including a necklace, bracelet, ring and earrings — was allegedly undervalued at Rs5.9 million through a private firm. Investigators said the gift was neither deposited in the Toshakhana nor assessed at its true market value, and influence was used to obtain an undervalued estimate.
Private appraiser Sohaib Abbasi told the court that Inam Shah, the private secretary of the petitioner, pressured him to conduct a lower valuation.
The prosecution team included Federal Prosecutor Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi, Barrister Umair Majeed Malik, Bilal Butt and Shahvez Gillani, while the defence was led by Arshad Tabraiz, Qausain Faisal Mufti and Barrister Salman Safdar.
