Local bodies’ election to be held on February 15 in Islamabad

ECP says elections will be held under provisions of Local Government Act of 2015

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Dec 9th, 2025) The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially unveiled the schedule for the much-anticipated local body elections in Islamabad, which are set to take place in February 2024.

The elections would be held under the provisions of the Local Government Act of 2015.

The ECP’s official notification said that the local body elections in Islamabad will be conducted on 15th February 2024.

As per the election timeline, nomination papers for prospective candidates will be accepted from 22nd to 27th December 2023. Following this, the scrutiny of the nomination papers will be carried out from 30th December 2023 to 3rd January 2024. Candidates will then be allocated their election symbols on 16th January 2024.

The ECP has appointed Irfan Nawaz Memon, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, to serve as the District Returning Officer (DRO) for the elections.

The local body elections would take place across 125 union councils in the Federal capital, providing Islamabad’s residents with the opportunity to elect their local representatives.

The Election Commission has urged all political parties and candidates to prepare in advance and ensure they comply with the electoral process. It has also emphasized its commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections in the capital.
