US prepares to expand travel ban list to over 30 countries

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem did not name specific countries but stated that President Trump is reviewing additional nations that will be added to the list of those subject to travel restrictions

WASHINGTON: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Dec 5th, 2025) The United States is preparing to expand its travel ban list from 19 to more than 30 countries amid concerns over national security and public safety.

In a recent interview with US television, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem did not name specific countries but stated that President Trump is reviewing additional nations that will be added to the list of those subject to travel restrictions.

The move to expand the travel ban list is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the Trump administration to address security concerns related to immigration and ensure greater control over who enters the United States.

Earlier this month, reports emerged indicating that the Trump administration had halted all immigration applications from nationals of 19 non-European countries, citing concerns over national security and public safety.

This action includes a freeze on green card and US citizenship applications.

According to the foreign news agency Reuters, this travel restriction applies to individuals from the 19 countries that were already facing partial travel bans as of June.

The list of countries previously affected includes Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. These countries were subject to the strictest measures, including a near-total ban on entry to the US, with limited exceptions.

In addition, other countries facing partial restrictions in June included Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
