NEW YORK: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Nov 5th, 2025) Zohran Mamdani created history by becoming New York City’s first Muslim mayor after winning the 2025 election.
In his victory speech, Mamdani said the election proved that “hope is still alive” and declared that “there is no room for Islamophobia in New York anymore.”
Addressing his supporters, Mamdani said, “Today’s election marks the defeat of fear and the triumph of hope. We have ended dynastic politics in New York. This city belongs to you, democracy belongs to you, and the future is in our hands.”
He thanked the people of New York for voting for change, expressing gratitude to taxi drivers, nurses, and the working class who supported his campaign. “We have entered a new era of leadership,” he said, acknowledging over a thousand volunteers for their efforts, adding that the victory was made possible because of them.
The newly elected mayor vowed to serve all citizens, saying, “Thank you for giving me a chance to prove myself. We will fight for you because we are one of you. Security and justice will be ensured for everyone — your struggle is our struggle.”
Mamdani, who identifies as a Muslim and a Democratic Socialist, reaffirmed his commitment to inclusivity, saying, “From January 1, 2026, we will build a city government that works for all.”
Addressing former President Donald Trump, he remarked, “Donald Trump, I know you’re watching — and I have four words for you: ‘Turn the volume up.’”
He pledged to stand with labor unions for workers’ rights and to dismantle the culture of corruption that allows billionaires like Trump to evade taxes. “New York City has been built and strengthened by immigrants, and together we will create a fairer future,” he added.
