Andre Russell bids farewell to Int’l cricket after 15-year career

Russell, 37, will play his final international games during upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, scheduled to take place from July 20 to 28 in Caribbean

JAMAICA: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 17th, 2025) West Indies’ explosive all-rounder Andre Russell has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a 15-year-long career marked by match-winning performances and two T20 World Cup titles.

Russell, 37, will play his final international games during the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, scheduled to take place from July 20 to 28 in the Caribbean. His farewell match will be held on July 22 at Sabina Park, Jamaica, his home ground.

Confirming the news, Cricket West Indies (CWI) issued a statement acknowledging Russell’s contributions: “For 15 years, you played with heart and passion for the pride of the West Indies — thank you, Andre Russell,”.

Having made his international debut in 2010, Russell played 1 Test, 56 ODIs, and 84 T20 Internationals. Known for his power-hitting and athleticism, he was an integral part of the West Indies teams that lifted the ICC T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016.

Since 2019, Russell had limited his appearances to the shortest format and did not feature in ODIs or Tests. With his retirement coming a year ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, Russell now shifts his focus entirely to franchise cricket.
