BERLIN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th June, 2019) A regional court in the German city of Oldenburg handed a life sentence on Thursday to a former nurse accused of killing 85 patients in clinics he worked at in the 2000s.
Niels Hoegel will not be allowed to ask for pardon after serving 15 years as is usually the case with life sentences in Germany.
Prosecutors initially accused the 42-year-old of murdering 100 patients in Oldenburg and Delmenhorst between 2000 and 2005, while his lawyers argued there was enough proof only in 55 cases.
Hoegel was already jailed in 2015 for two murders. He was found to have injected patients with lethal drug doses to induce cardiac arrest and resuscitate them to win acclaim. Prosecutors proved that many more attempts failed than was thought.
