SUKHUM (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th May, 2019) The Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia, which broke away from Georgia a decade ago, said Wednesday it would work closer together with Syria, which with it shares a common approach to international events."The agenda of our inter-state bilateral cooperation has broadened ... We are confident that our countries will open up new horizons of cooperation in the years to come," the ministry's statement read.
Syria recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia in 2018, which marked the tenth anniversary of their independence following Georgia's brutal onslaught on the two Caucasus republics in August 2008.
Abkhazia's Foreign Ministry said it had set up regular political contacts with Syria that grew into a strong friendship based on mutual trust and respect over the past year.
