Iraq Hands Over Almost 190 Children of IS Members to Turkey - Judicial Authorities

Iraqi authorities handed over nearly 190 Turkish children, whose parents were members of the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) to Ankara, the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council said in a statement, obtained by Sputnik on Wednesday

BAGHDAD (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th May, 2019) Iraqi authorities handed over nearly 190 Turkish children, whose parents were members of the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) to Ankara, the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council said in a statement, obtained by Sputnik on Wednesday.

"The central investigation court, which deals with the issues of terrorism and foreign nationals accused of it, has handed over to Turkey 188 IS militants' children, who were abandoned in Iraq," the council's spokesman, Abdul Sattar Biraqdar, was quoted as saying in the statement.

According to Biraqdar, there are among them individuals aged over 18, who were "convicted for illegal border crossing."

The children were sent back to Turkey aboard a plane. The transfer took place under the supervision of officials from the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, the Turkish Embassy in Baghdad and international organizations, including the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the statement noted.
