Government will spend Rs140 billion on local bodies: Prime Minister Imran Khan

Talking to journalists, he said 22,000 village council will be elected on a non-party basis. The candidates for village council elections will not be from a political party.

LAHORE- (Pakistan Point News- 6th May 2019) Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced that Rs140 billion will be allocated for local bodies in Punjab and the province will go through two-tier elections to form a new system.

Talking to journalists, he said 22,000 village council will be elected on a non-party basis. The candidates for village council elections will not be from a political party.

The PM said that directed elections will be held for tehsil level while the urban population will elect their mayors in cities on party-basis elections.

He said Rs40 billion from total Rs140 billion will be spent on the development of villages.

This is important to mention here that the PTI Punjab government has recently introduced Punjab Local Government Act 2019 by repealing Punjab Local Government Act 2013.

With the introduction of the new law, the current representatives of local government faced suspension. The government has yet to announce the date of elections.

PM Khan announced that direction polls will be held for Tehsil level while the urban population will choose their mayors in cities on party-basis polls.
