Russian National Airline Aeroflot Confirms Fire On SSJ100 Plane Extinguished

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th May, 2019) Russian flagship carrier Aeroflot confirmed on Sunday that the fire which occurred on its Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) passenger plane at the Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport had been extinguished.

The SSJ100 had to make an emergency landing earlier in the day due to the fire on board, which ultimately destroyed half of the aircraft. According to the Russian authorities, the incident claimed life of one person, while six others were injured.

"Aeroflot confirms the information about the ignition of the plane's engines after landing at Sheremetyevo during the SU1492 Moscow-Murmansk flight. [The aircraft] was forced to return to the airport for technical reasons. The fire has been extinguished. There are people injured, the number is being specified. Passengers have left the aircraft on emergency airstairs, " the company said in a statement.

A commission has been created to investigate the causes and circumstances of the incident, while Aeroflot's crisis headquarters has been promptly convened, the statement read.
