WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st May, 2019) The US government will not retire the USS Truman aircraft carrier, Vice President Mike Pence announced during remarks at a Naval Station in Norfolk in the state of Virginia.
The Pentagon was originally pressured by the White House to reduce the aircraft carrier fleet from 11 to 10 ships by retiring the Truman halfway through its service life by 2024. This decision was expected to save $3.4 billion.
"We are keeping the best carrier in the world in the fight, we are not retiring the Truman," Pence said on Tuesday.
Pence added that the Truman will be "giving them hell" for many more years.
