Literary and revolutionary circles mark Habib Jalib death anniversary

Faiz Ahmed Faiz paid tributes to him by saying that he was truly the poet of the masses.

LAHORE- (Pakistan Point News- 12th March 2019) Death anniversary of legendary poet Habib Jalib is being marked among the literary and revolutionary circles across the country.

The left-wing activist and revolutionary, Jalib received fame due to his political activism against martial law of General Ziaul Haq.

He would recite his poetry in public meetings of PPP and other opposition parties and received the applause of thousands of people.

Poet like Faiz Ahmed Faiz paid tributes to him by saying that he was truly the poet of the masses.

Jalib spoke against tyranny and oppression and raise voiced for democracy. He was put in jail on many occasions

He spoke actively against military coups and administrators due to which he was jailed several times by Zia government.

Born 24 March 1928 in a village near Hoshiarpur, British India, he migrated to Pakistan after the partition of India due to family pressure though he wanted to live in India. He worked as a proofreader for Daily Imroze of Karachi. He was a progressive writer and soon started to grab the audience with his enthusiastic recitation of poetry. He wrote in plain language, adopted a simple style and addressed common people and issues. He died on Mach 12, 1993.
