Jamaat-e-Islami is no more part of MMA, announces Shoora

JI chief Sirajul Haq has hinted two months ago that his party was no more willing to remain in the MMA

LAHORE- (Pakistan Point News- 11th March 2019) Jamaat-i-Islami central executive council has announced to part ways with the Muttahida Majlise Amal after almost a year of revival of five religious parties’ alliance.

Although JI chief Sirajul Haq has hinted two months ago that his party was no more willing to remain in the MMA, the JI central shoora approved the decision on Monday.

“The JI will not conduct any future programme under the banner of the MMA,” announced the Shoora.

A central leader of the JI said that MMA was formed for election purpose only and it failed to produce desired results.

Formed in 2002, the MMA was revived in December 2017, six months before the general elections. It was revived almost a decade after its dissolution in 2008.

There was strong consideration among the member of JI that Maulana Fazlur Rahman used the platform to safeguard his own interests, though the latter also failed to deliver good results in the elections.

The JI could only win one provincial assembly seat from KP in the polls. It showed the worst performance in Punjab and Sindh.

Out of 16 MMA seats in National Assembly, 15 belong to JUI-F of Maulana Fazlur Rahman and one to the JI.

Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith, Islami Tehreek and JUP-Imam Noorani are the other three components of the MMA. Their leaders, however, said the MMA was still intact and that they were unaware of the JI’s move.

Insiders in the JI said the party would go to local bodies’ polls without making an alliance with Maulana Fazl’s JUI-F.
