Hafiz Saeed to remain in UN list of banned terrorists

Government has already decided to take action against proscribed outfits

LAHORE- (Pakistan Point News – 7th March 2019) The UN has rejected the appeal of Jamaat-ud-Dawa Chief Hafiz Saeed for removal of his name from the list of banned terrorist.

The decision of the international body came at a time when the Pakistan government has already started a countrywide crackdown against the proscribed organization. The police and law enforcement agencies have taken control of different seminaries and schools run under JuD in all provinces. Similarly, 44 members of the banned outfit have also taken into custody.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has also announced to take into confidence all opposition parties regarding crackdown against the banned outfits. “It has been decided in country’s interest to take action against the banned organization. However, the strategy will be finalized after taking into confidence the leaders of major parties,” he said in a media talk on early Thursday.

The JuD spokesman could not be achieved to get the party’s point of view on the United Nation’s move. However, some independent sources confirmed the report.

Hafiz Saeed had requested the UN for removing his name from the list of banned terrorists after he was set free by the Pakistani courts.
