WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th March, 2019) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen to discuss the situation in the war-torn country, Department of State spokesperson Robert Palladino said on Wednesday."The Secretary reiterated the [Trump] administration's strong support for the United Nation's efforts to reinvigorate efforts towards a political solution, including constitutional reform and the need for credible preparations for free and fair elections," Palladino said.
During the meeting on Tuesday, Pompeo reiterated the United States' support for the United Nations-led efforts to maintain the political process in Syria, Paladino said.
Pompeo also emphasized the importance of unhindered humanitarian access in Syria and the safe return of refugees, Palladino added.
