PARIS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th January, 2019) Paris police fired water cannon at yellow vest protesters rallying for the tenth straight weekend in the French capital, a Sputnik correspondent said Saturday.Demonstrators marched almost 10 miles through downtown Paris. After the four-hour event ended in the afternoon a group of youths clashed with police outside Les Invalides complex of military museums.
Police were pelted with bottles and garbage and responded with tear gas and water cannon. The radicals shouted insults back at them and hurled firecrackers.
The French Interior Ministry said 27,000 took to the streets across the country on Saturday, with 7,000 demonstrating in Paris, according to BFMTV. The Paris police prefecture said that 42 people had been detained in the city as of 7 p.m.
Violence was reported in other French cities, including Bordeaux, Toulouse and Marseille, where protesters threw projectiles at law enforcement officers.
Around 50 protesters stormed a prison in the eastern French city of Dijon, the broadcaster said, demanding that their comrades be freed, before leaving on their own. Four yellow vests were placed in custody on Friday for violence against gendarmes while they were in their barracks.
