Up to 117 Migrants Missing After Boat Sinks Off Libya Coast

As many as 117 migrants could be missing after a dinghy sank off the Libyan coast, a spokesman for the UN-backed International Organization for Migration cited survivors as saying

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th January, 2019) As many as 117 migrants could be missing after a dinghy sank off the Libyan coast, a spokesman for the UN-backed International Organization for Migration cited survivors as saying.

IOM Mediterranean spokesman Flavio Di Giacomo initially said that a boat carrying about 20 migrants capsized 50 miles away from the shore. Three people were brought to the Italian island of Lampedusa.

"According to survivors migrants on board were 120. There are therefore 117 missing people including 10 women and 2 children," he tweeted later.

Di Giacomo added that one missing child was just two months old. Many migrants were from western Africa, the spokesman said, but around 40 are believed to be Sudanese.
