Turkey Opens Criminal Case After Shipwreck With Ukrainian Sailors - Ukrainian Ambassador

A criminal case has been opened in Turkey over a freight vessel wreck in the Black Sea with Ukrainian sailors near the Turkish city of Samsun, Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey Andrii Sybiha said Tuesday

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th January, 2019) A criminal case has been opened in Turkey over a freight vessel wreck in the Black Sea with Ukrainian sailors near the Turkish city of Samsun, Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey Andrii Sybiha said Tuesday.

"[A criminal case has been opened] over the incident, which led, among other things, to the death of people," Sibiha said, as quoted by the UNN news agency.

According to the diplomat, the Ukrainian sailors were questioned by the local law enforcement as witnesses.

He also said that the injured sailors can be released from hospital in several days as there was no threat to their lives. Sibiha stressed that the diplomats had provided all the necessary material support to the injured Ukrainians, who were left without belongings and documents.

On Monday, a freight vessel sailing under the Panamanian flag sank near the Turkish coast. According to the Anadolu news agency, the vessel broke apart and sank, leaving six people killed. The Russian Embassy reported that there were no Russians among the 13 crew members. The Ukrainian ambassador said four Ukrainians died in the incident.
