Punjab govt to give scooties, bikes to female students on easy installments

The decision has been taken to provide better transport facilities to the students.

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 18th December, 2018) The Punjab government has decided to give scooties and motorcycles to female students on easy installments.

Punjab education Foundation (PEF) Chairman Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi said that the scheme will be launched in 2019. He said that free cycles for male students and travel vouchers for female students will be given under the scheme.

Other than that, the students of degree classes and university will also be given scooties. The PEF chairman added that in order to provide relief to the students, the vehicles would be given on easy instalments.

The travel vouchers will be distributed among female students of Matric and Intermediate so they are able to reach their educational institutes on time. He pointed out there are 53,000 schools and 550 colleges in the province where around 50 million students study.

The trend of scooties among women is gaining speedy popularity in Pakistan as it is affordable and provides an easier way of commuting.

As with the women empowerment many females have entered into workforce, for which they require cheaper and easier way of transportation.

Earlier, former chief minister Shehbaz Sharif had introduced Women on Wheels scheme under Government of Punjab's 'Subsidized Motorcycle Scheme for Women'. The initiative was taken to encourage the women establish gender equality and take back control of the much needed public spaces.
