Moscow Believes Poroshenko May Use Donbas Escalation for Canceling Presidential Election

Moscow believes Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko may use increasing tension in Donbas for prolonging martial law in Ukraine and even canceling presidential election, the Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th December, 2018) Moscow believes Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko may use increasing tension in Donbas for prolonging martial law in Ukraine and even canceling presidential election, the Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said on Thursday.

"According to Kiev's plan, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko urgently needs a drastic escalation of the situation in order to improve his approval rating in the run-up to the presidential election. This sharp escalation in Donbas will also allow Poroshenko to prolong the martial law ranging up to the cancellation of the presidential election," Zakharova said at a briefing.
