Russia and the African Union (AU) Commission will hold a summit on strategic dialogue in Moscow by March 2019 and sign an agreement to bolster partnership, AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Smail Chergui, told Sputnik.
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th December, 2018) Russia and the African Union (AU) Commission will hold a summit on strategic dialogue in Moscow by March 2019 and sign an agreement to bolster partnership, AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Smail Chergui, told Sputnik.
On Monday, the AU official met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and discussed with him the fight against terrorism and the settlement of crises in Africa, including those in the Central African Republic, Libya and South Sudan.
"This is a regular consultation that we undertake at least once every year, but it's also in preparation of the visit of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and the whole Commission [to Russia] by March 2019, for the strategic dialogue [summit] between the Russian Federation and the African Union Commission," Chergui said.
Chergui added that during the upcoming visit the AU Commission and the Russian Federation would sign an agreement "to really take into account the added actions that we have taken in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two sides."
