STOCKHOLM (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th December, 2018) An agreement on the exchange of detainees and prisoners of war between the Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels will be implemented in the next few days, Osman Hussein, Yemen's agriculture minister and a member of the governmental delegation at the intra-Yemeni consultations in Sweden, told journalists on Friday.
On Thursday, intra-Yemeni talks between the governmental delegation and the Houthi rebels began in Sweden. On the same day, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths announced that the two sides had signed an agreement on prisoner exchange.
"We have an agreement on detainees. We have signed it with the Houthis. We are waiting for this agreement to be implemented in the next few days ... For the government, we are very open, and we are very keen to have a breakthrough on the detainees issue," Hussein said.
He noted that the authorities were ready to proceed with the release of detained militias.
"The problem is that Houthis are ... still committing human rights violations by capturing academics from Hodeidah University yesterday ... That's a negative sign that they are not willing to go forward on this issue," Hussein argued.
