Nearly 3 Million People Evacuated Over Phone Terrorism in Russia Over Past Year - Source

Nearly 3 million people were evacuated from buildings in almost 230 cities in Russia due to the recent wave of mass telephone terrorism, which has continued in the country since the fall of 2017, a law enforcement source told Sputnik Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th November, 2018) Nearly 3 million people were evacuated from buildings in almost 230 cities in Russia due to the recent wave of mass telephone terrorism, which has continued in the country since the fall of 2017, a law enforcement source told Sputnik Thursday.

"In total, since September 11, 2017, when Russia was hit by a wave of telephone terrorism, almost 2.76 million people were evacuated in 227 cities," the source said.

The source also said that during this time more than 3,000 anonymous calls with threats of explosions in 4,400 locations were registered in Russia. Investigation of these cases required more than 57,000 law enforcement officers and more than 18,000 pieces of equipment.

The source confirmed that on November 28 there were registered six anonymous calls about "mining" of 11 shopping centers in Moscow. The evacuation of people required calling in almost 120 law-enforcement officers and 44 units of equipment.

Mass calls about mining of buildings and shopping centers in Russia started on September 11, 2017. According to the Moscow Department of the FSB, the wave of the anonymous calls hit 75 out of 85 regions of Russia. Around 600 of such cases were registered in Moscow and almost 100 in Moscow Region.
