MADRID (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th November, 2018) Mass protests by doctors, students, teachers and public employees are being held on Thursday in Barcelona, with the protesters demanding additional funding and more staff.According to the 24 Horas broadcaster, mass demonstration took place on Thursday in the center of Barcelona under the slogan "For the social budget" involving doctors, students, professors as well as employees of the Catalan government, who demand additional funding for themselves and complain about the shortage of staff.
This week, health workers have been conducting a five-day strike demanding to reduce the workload of therapists to 28 patients a day, and also set the minimum time for each appointment to 12 minutes.
Students started their protest on Wednesday, demanding a 30 percent reduction in tuition fees. On Thursday, they temporarily blocked off one of the main streets of the city, including the Diagonal Avenue, and barricaded the entrances to the campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
Protests also took place in other provincial capitals of the autonomous community in Lleida, Tarragona and Girona.
One of the country's largest trade unions, the General Confederation of Workers, demanded that the authorities should take urgent and acceptable measures.
On Wednesday, health workers and firemen protests led to clashes with the police in front of the Catalan Parliament in Barcelona. The protesters demanded better working conditions.
