Senior US Diplomat Travels To 3 European Countries For Energy Talks - State Dept.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th November, 2018) US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Francis Fannon is traveling to Hungary, Croatia and the Czech Republic for discussions on diversification of the European energy infrastructure, the State Department said in a press release.

"Fannon will travel to Zagreb, Budapest, and Prague from November 28 to December 6, 2018," the release said on Wednesday. "His trip will...highlight the importance of a diversified network of energy infrastructure in Europe, including the potential role that the Krk Island Liquefied Natural Gas terminal project in Croatia could play."

The release said Fannon will discuss energy security and regional energy cooperation with both government officials and the private sector.

The LNG terminal on the island of Krk is expected to be completed in 2019.

Washington is actively advocating export of its LNG to Europe. In August, President Donald Trump said the European Union was considering paying for construction of up to 11 LNG ports following European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker's pledge to import more gas from the United States.

The United States has repeatedly expressed its opposition to Russian gas deliveries in Europe, particularly to the Nord Stream 2 project, claiming that it was the means of political control used by Moscow to exert pressure on the European Union. Russia has consistently refuted the accusations, noting that it is mutually beneficial commercial project with competitive prices.
