NATO-led Mission Confirms 3 Coalition Personnel Wounded in Kandahar Attack

Three NATO Resolute Support personnel were wounded in the crossfire of the attack in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province, coalition spokesperson Col. Knut Peters told Sputnik on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th October, 2018) Three NATO Resolute Support personnel were wounded in the crossfire of the attack in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province, coalition spokesperson Col. Knut Peters told Sputnik on Thursday.

"We can now clarify initial reports. In fact, three coalition personnel were wounded - one US service member, one American civilian and one coalition contractor," Peters said. "All three have been medically evacuated and are stable."

Earlier in the day, Peters said, there was a situation at the Kandahar palace and initial reports indicated that Afghan officials were targeted in an attack and Americans were wounded during the crossfire.

Resolute Support commander General Austin Miller was not injured during the attack, the spokesperson added, and initial reports indicate that the attacker is dead.

Earlier on Thursday, local media reported that Gen. Abdul Raziq, the police chief in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, was shot dead on Thursday when he and other high-ranking Afghan officials were leaving the office of the regional governor.
