US Objective is Not to Grant Waivers for Purchasers of Iranian Oil - Bolton

The United States' objective is to deny waivers for purchasers of Iranian oil, a policy that could possibly reduce Tehran's exports of oil to zero, National Security Adviser John Bolton said during a conference call on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th October, 2018) The United States' objective is to deny waivers for purchasers of Iranian oil, a policy that could possibly reduce Tehran's exports of oil to zero, National Security Adviser John Bolton said during a conference call on Thursday.

"Our objective as the second wave of sanctions comes back on to Iran is we want to put maximum pressure on the government of Tehran," Bolton said. "It's our objective that there be no waivers from the sanctions for [purchasers] of Iranian oil and gas ... you can look at the possibility of reductions leading to zero."

The United States started reimposing sanctions on Iran after withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal in May. In early August, Washington imposed the first package of sanctions targeting Iran's purchase of US Dollar banknotes, trade in gold and other metals as well as transactions involving its national Currency.

A second package of sanctions is set to be introduced in early November and will target Iran's energy sector and oil exports, among other things.
