US Concerned About Health of Wrongfully Detained Activist in Cuba - State Dept.

The United States is concerned about the health of an activist who is on a hunger strike to protest his wrongful imprisonment in Cuba, the State Department said in a press release on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th October, 2018) The United States is concerned about the health of an activist who is on a hunger strike to protest his wrongful imprisonment in Cuba, the State Department said in a press release on Thursday.

"The United States is gravely concerned about the physical health of Cuban democratic activist Tomás Núñez Magdariaga, who has been on a hunger strike for more than 50 days in protest against his wrongful imprisonment," the release said.

Nunez's family, the release added, has not been allowed to see him even though his health is in a "critical state."

The release also said Cuban authorities arrested the activist on false charges and convicted him during a "sham" trial where Nunez was not allowed to have any witnesses speak on his behalf.

The State Department condemns the conviction and urges the Cuban government to release Nunez and all other political prisoners, according to the release.
