Indonesian President Joko Widodo announced on Saturday that the country was planning to make a bid to host the 2032 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games following the success of the Asian Games.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st September, 2018) Indonesian President Joko Widodo announced on Saturday that the country was planning to make a bid to host the 2032 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games following the success of the Asian Games.

Earlier in the day, Widodo held a meeting with International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach at the presidential palace in the country's capital Jakarta, the sports website insidethegames.biz reported. Jakarta is also currently hosting the Asian Games, one of the major sports events along with the Summer Olympic Games.

"After the excellent experience of the Asian Games we now believe that we can host the very biggest sporting event ... In Indonesia we believe we can host the Olympic Games 2032," Widodo was quoted as saying by the website.

Bach, in turn, noted that the hosting of the Asian Games would make Indonesia a solid candidate for hosting the Olympics.

"It is a great decision which gives the youth of this young country a vision for the future and capitalizes on the success of the Asian Games ... Here in Indonesia there is a great combination of friendliness and efficiency and this is what the Games are about," Bach said as quoted by the website.

Meanwhile, Indonesia have been recently hit by a series of powerful earthquakes that claimed the lives of over 550 people, according to local authorities. Moreover, in late August, the Australian government said that its Consulate-General in the Indonesian second-largest city of Surabaya was boosting security measures amid claims that terrorists might be plotting terrorist attacks in the country.
