Arkansas State Senator Indicted on Wire, Tax Fraud Charges - US Justice Department

A state senator in Arkansas has been indicted for plotting to steal thousands of dollars in campaign contributions, spending them on luxuries and then trying to cover up the crime, the US Department of Justice said in a news release on Friday.

"A Federal grand jury in Little Rock, Arkansas indicted current Arkansas State Senator Jeremy Hutchinson [on Thursday] for allegedly devising a scheme to steal thousands of dollars in campaign contributions - spending them on personal luxuries and expenses," the release said.

Hutchinson allegedly then falsified state campaign finance reports and tax filings as part of the scheme, the Justice Department added.

Hutchinson, 44, of Little Rock, has been a State Senator since 2011. The 12-count indictment charges him with eight counts of wire fraud and four counts of filing false tax returns, the release stated.
