The explosive devise thart killed the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Alexander Zakharchenko, was inside the building, Eduard Basurin, the deputy commander of the DPR Operational Command, said Friday.

Earlier on Friday, Zakharchenko was killed in a bomb blast in a cafe in downtown Donetsk. The explosion also caused serious injuries to DPR Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Timofeev, who accompanied Zakharchenko, and who is now in grave condition in a hospital. The DPR authorities have classified the incident as a terrorist attack.
"The explosive device was inside the cafe. The investigators are currently examining [the site]. It is being established how and where [the explosive device was detonated], the official statements will be made later," Basurin said.
