US Diplomat Meets Lithuanian Foreign Minister to Discuss Russia, NATO - State Dept.

US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius discussed relations with Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said on Friday in a readout of the meeting.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st September, 2018) US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius discussed relations with Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said on Friday in a readout of the meeting.

"Deputy Secretary Sullivan met with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius on August 31," Nauert said. "The Deputy Secretary and Foreign Minister discussed relations with Russia, the outcomes of the NATO Summit, and the transatlantic relationship."

Earlier on Friday, Lithuanian Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis said that he did not see the upcoming Vostok-2018 military exercises in Russia as a preparation for war.

On August 15, Joint Chiefs of Staff spokesman Patrick Ryder said Chairman General Joseph Dunford met with his Lithuanian counterpart Lieutenant General Vytautas Zukas for talks on Baltic security and upcoming NATO training involving the two nations.

NATO has increased its presence in the Baltic region as part of a military buildup throughout Eastern Europe in response to tensions with Russia that were triggered by a 2014 coup in Ukraine.
