Saudi Arabia Interested in Enhancing Military Cooperation With Russia - Defense Official

Saudi Arabia is interested in enhancing cooperation with Russia, especially in the military area, Saudi Assistant Minister of Defense Mohammad bin Abdullah Al-Ayesh said on Tuesday.

KUBINKA (Moscow Region) (Pakistan Point news / Sputnik - 21st August, 2018) Saudi Arabia is interested in enhancing cooperation with Russia, especially in the military area, Saudi Assistant Minister of Defense Mohammad bin Abdullah Al-Ayesh said on Tuesday.

"By order of our leader, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, we aspire to develop relations with the Russian Federation. Especially with our friends in the Defense Ministry," Al-Ayesh said during his meeting with Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin.

He added that Russia and Saudi Arabia had similar approaches to fighting international terrorism.

According to Al-Ayesh, as various terrorist organizations, which can be based in several states at a time, pose new threats to international security, armed forces need to apply new methods when fighting them: namely, deprive the organizations of their funding, and prevent them from recruiting new members via media.

The official went on to say that these methods were no less important than military operations.

On Monday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Saudi Ambassador in Moscow Rayed Khalid Krimly expressed their commitment to enhance "multifaceted Russian-Saudi ties, including maintaining an active political dialogue."
