The number of people killed in powerful earthquakes on Indonesia's Lombok island has increased to 506, Indonesia's national disaster management agency (BNPB) said on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) The number of people killed in powerful earthquakes on Indonesia's Lombok island has increased to 506, Indonesia's national disaster management agency (BNPB) said on Tuesday.

Spokesman for the agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in a published statement that over 430,000 people were forced to flee their homes as the quake destroyed over 74,000 houses.

On Sunday, Lombok was hit by a 6.9-magnitude earthquake. The quake's epicenter was located at the depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

Earlier in August, the island was struck by a 7.0-magnitude quake, which was followed by a series of aftershocks. According to the BNPB, the earthquake claimed lives of 436 people.
