MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) A Moscow court ruled on Monday to arrest the former deputy director general of Russian Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, Aleksey Beloborodov, on fraud charges, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the courtroom.

Earlier in the day, court spokeswoman Maria Borovikova told Sputnik that investigators had requested the court to order Beloborodov's arrest.

"To use measures of restraint toward defendant Beloborodov in the form of being remanded in custody until October 16," Judge Anton Martynenko said, reading the court ruling.

Beloborodov pleaded not guilty, and his lawyer insisted that the testimonies against his client had been obtained by means of coercion.

Two Beloborodov's subordinates, Oleg Pylnov and Ilya Shenderey, detained along with Beloborodov, pleaded guilty to all charges.

The court allowed both Pylnov and Shenderey to be put under house arrest.

On Sunday, the Russian Investigative Committee announced that Beloborodov and two of his subordinates had been detained on suspicion of attempted fraud. All the three were fired from Energia two days prior to their detention. During searches of Beloborodovs property, the committee seized marked bills worth 500,000 rubles ($7,446), as well as 28,000 rubles in Euros and Dollars.

The committee estimated the damage inflicted on the state by the fraud at 31 million rubles.
