German Ministry Orders Daimler AG to Recall 690,00 Cars Over Diesel Scandal - Reports

The German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure confirmed on Monday that German carmaker Daimler AG would have to recall 690,000 diesel cars across Europe over the use of emission-manipulating software systems, local media reported, citing the ministrys statement.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) The German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure confirmed on Monday that German carmaker Daimler AG would have to recall 690,000 diesel cars across Europe over the use of emission-manipulating software systems, local media reported, citing the ministrys statement.

According to the Bild newspaper, 280,000 out of 690,000 cars will be recalled in Germany.

The ministry demands that Daimler remove the software system that threatens to increase the cars toxic nitrogen oxide emissions.

The ministry specified that the decision concerns both Mercedes Vito and also cars of C, E and G class.

The carmaker reportedly stressed its readiness to cooperate with the authorities on the issue, insisting that it was not engaged in unlawful cheating.

The so-called diesel scandal, involving a number of German car manufacturers, dates back to 2015, when the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) accused the Volkswagen Group, which owns 19 car brands, including Audi and Mercedes-Benz, of using specific software to falsify emission test results for its diesel-engine vehicles. Since that, Germany has launched a number of investigations into its carmakers emission software systems.
