Opting Out of UK Airshow Made Russia Focus on Other Military Defense Exhibitions- Official

Russia has been focusing on defense industry exhibitions in other regions since deciding not to showcase its military equipment at the Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom, Director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugaev told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th August, 2018) Russia has been focusing on defense industry exhibitions in other regions since deciding not to showcase its military equipment at the Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom, Director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugaev told Sputnik.

"We decided not to isolate ourselves and take offense; this is not in our interests. If we are unable to participate in events in Farnborough or elsewhere [in Europe], we will find other exhibitions We realize that we must focus on other regions where some smaller exhibitions are gaining momentum. For example, last year, we participated in the exhibitions in Cote dIvoire, Mexico, Bahrain and Columbia," Shugaev said.

Russia was also exploring new emerging platforms which it believed would develop in future, Shugaev noted, listing September's weapons exhibition in the Philippines and a similar event that would be held in Cairo in December as examples.

The official noted the increasing importance of the Russian Army-2018 forum, to be held on August 21-26, in this context.

"We have opened our doors for everyone. Today, our Russian exhibition is becoming one of the most spectacular and important. So in all, we are not losing anything," Shugaev pointed out.

This year's edition of the Farnborough airshow was held on July 16-22. Russian state corporation Rostec did not participate in the exhibition. The company said their decision was based on the fact that the events organizers did not want military exporter Rosoboronexport, a part of Rostec, to participate. Other Russian companies that produce defense industry products followed suit.
